Good Morning - Rainy Day and All

At least it's warm outside today! The birdies were chirping this morning thinking Spring is here. It may well be because the weather has been so weird. We're expecting colder temps coming in this afternoon and overnight but then warmer the next few days!

Unfortunately this warm weather has spawned a few tornadoes in the area. Branson, Missouri had a very bad tornado. Let's hope it's not as bad as the one in Joplin, Missouri!

I finally finished knitting my Maggie Jackson stole. I think the powers that be were conspiring against me to finish that thing. However, once I FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS, it was smooth sailing. I still have to weave in a few ends and then press all of the MANY pieces! I'll do the weaving in tonight and then press the pieces over the weekend. I can't wait to post a picture of the finished product! Another UFO done - almost.... My friend Liz said it's not really hard to put it together so I'm feeling positive about that...we'll see!

Today is the last day of the bar exam for my oldest son. I don't think I could go through this again with the younger one! (After all, it is about me! - Ha-Ha!) I know it's more nerve racking for him than it is for me but the stress is difficult for both of us! I saw a man in the elevator this morning and asked him if he was a lawyer. He said yes and then asked why. I told him my son was taking the last part of the bar exam today and I was wondering how difficult it is. He said they have a high pass rate in Illinois so that made me feel better. He also said it was a long time since he took it - he was probably 65 or so!

Well, back to work for me. Have a great day and don't let a house fall on you!

Good Evening!

I write this at 10:30 p.m. on Monday night. I can't figure out how to post pictures on my blog at work so I'm doing it now. Maybe I shouldn't try to post pictures at work? : )  Come on, of course I do it before I clock in each morning! Truly I do because I get there so early!

As promised, here is a picture of Aunt Elaine's hat blocked. I soaked it and then spread it around a dinner plate. You can really see the design on the top. I just love it!

Monday, February 27, 2012

Good morning,
Today is Monday and a beautiful sunny, but cool day. It's hard to believe we have such wonderful weather in Chicago this winter. We are very lucky to enjoy these mild temperatures, little snow, and it's already the end of February! We're at the home stretch until Spring!

Liz and I are going to be putting together our Maggie Jackson stoles next month. Liz has a head start on hers and will be starting today. I have to finish a bit of my last piece, weave all the ends in (I think I have already done that for most of the pieces - there are about 10! - I  HOPE I HAVE!) and then press all of them. I'll be ready to go next week Monday and get that project completed! I've only been working on in for two years! The last time I touched it was February 12, 2011 - I know because I dated where I left off so I would remember! : ) I will post a picture of all the pieces tonight and show the progress. My goal is to complete it by the end of March (or sooner!)

Elaine's hat turned out beautiful. I blocked it last night on a dinner plate and the crown looks beautiful! I'll take a picture tonight and post it. I hope she likes it! I think I'll be making another one for myself as it really looks nice!

My next goal is to finish my blue Maggie vest for summer. I started it two years ago and it's been in the "que" waiting to be completed. I have the back done and now need to start on the two front panels. There are no sleeves on it so it should go quickly! (I hope!) I have another Maggie cotton sweater to complete and that will be next. My goal is to complete at least 5 projects that are "on the needles" before I buy anymore yarn!

I don't want to get all religious but I was very upset this morning because I got on the "L" car today and there were at least 10 homeless people all over. I got off in digust and was very torn about my feelings. While I do feel sorry for them, I resent them taking up two seats, sprawling all over, etc. Then I came to work and read my "Living the Days of Lent 2012" for February 27, 2012." I was put in my place when I ready "Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me." - Matthew 25:40 Then I read "Can we give away a favorite possession today to a person in need of it?" God was definitely talking to me and I was duly chatised for my thoughts. I will not resent the homeless so much because a lot of us are just two or three paychecks away from homelessness!

Have a great day!

Sunday, February 26, 2012

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Mine was most excellent!

Saturday morning I Skyped with my dear friends Mandy and Thomas who live in Germany. We had a great time chatting and laughing! I can't wait until they come to Chicago later this year. We're going to have so much fun, especially at Starbucks! : )

Saturday night we celebrated a fellow knitter's retirement from the Chicago Police Department. What a wonderful night of eating, drinking and dancing! We all had a wonderful time! Thanks for driving Ro! I am so jealous of Gladys!!!!

Sunday morning was our usual breakfast out and then I went to Woolly Lamb to knit. As usual, we had a wonderful time together! I finished Auntie Elaine's hat and just need to block it a bit. I hope she likes it! Here are some pics:

(Notice the Lucky Me shamrock Longaberger octagon placemat as the backdrop!)

Sorry! - Last Minute Knitted Gifts Link - I think this works!

I don't think my link to the book worked. (The first time I've tried!) I'll try again.
http://www.amazon.com/Last-Minute-Knitted-Gifts-Joelle-Hoverson/dp/1584793678/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1330093893&sr=1-1

I'm Back!!! - Friday, February 24, 2012

Yeah! I can, once again, post on my blog at work. I guess the $20.00 I slipped our IT guy helped....no, I didn't really because I don't know any of them and I don't think $20.00 would get me anywhere! I haven't had any problems with the computer - yet - so I'm not worrying. As long as I can get onto my blog before starting my day, I'm happy.

Well, we did get some snow last night - not a lot but enough to turn most drivers into bad drivers. The "L" was running well but people have to try to move to the middle of the train when they get on a crowded car instead of just standing at the doors in the way! If I ran the CTA....I'd make sure there were no stinky burning smells on the train!

My son is taking the bar exam next week so keep him in your thoughts and prayers. I've been praying for him to pass it so he can put it behind him and get a job! His girlfriend surprised me yesterday with a beautiful new knitting book; Last Minute Knitted Gifts http://www.amazon.com/  I was so touched and surprised that she thought of me when she was shopping at the book store. I told her this is how my Mother must have felt when I brought home a little gift for her! I took the book to Woolly Lamb last night and showed it off to everyone. All the ladies were looking at it and saying how beautiful it was. I have to sit down and look it over myself - just haven't had the time yet!

Tonight I start on Aunt Elaine's hat! I'm very excited about making it and possibly making one for myself. After that, I am going to start on the Pencil Scarf for Brittany, my niece! It is so adorable and she asked me if I could make it. I'll try! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/crochet-pencil-scarf

Well, I need to check my email and Facebook and then it's on to work. I actually get to work an hour early because my DH drops me off at the "L" a bit early so I do all my comptering before I punch in!

Have a great weekend and I'll post some pics of my progress on the hat!

Thursday, February 23, 2012 - TOMORROW IS FRIDAY!!!!!

Well, will we get the snow predicted tonight? I hope there will be a lot again so we don't have to go to work tomorrow! It's the end of February so we know the snow won't stick around too much! : )

I was very upset today because I broke my tooth! Of course my new dentist and her partner are at a seminar and won't be back until Monday. Now I'll have to get it pulled and have an implant put in! I don't want to have to go to an oral surgeon to get it pulled or dug out! I'll probably have to take some time off work too! Not good if you've only been working since the beginning of January. My boss was very understanding and said not to worry! I am a lucky person in that respect! Luckily I don't have any pain but definitely cannot eat on that side. It's a molar in the back.

Knit Night was fun tonight. We laughed, ate, and did a bit of knitting. I picked out some beautiful soft yarn to make a hat for my Aunt Elaine. This is the yarn and the pattern. The yarn is a beautiful, soft Berroco Vintage red which doesn't show that well on the pic.

I'm anxious to begin knitting this hat to see what it looks like! I'll probably change the pattern a bit to better match the sample my Aunt wanted. I will start it tomorrow night and post a pic when it is bit more completed. I know, I know, I have startitis...it's very contagious when you visit a knit shop!! Brittany, I promise I will get your pencil scarf started before Spring!

Have a wonderful day and be sure to stop and smell the roses!

Ash Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Finally! I am back up and running. I haven't been able to get onto my blog at work for the past two days! Can't figure out what the problem is!

Anyway, I am having so much fun knitting my Chinook scarf! It is soooo beautiful! Thank you Tom for bringing the beautiful pattern to Woolly Lamb and Brigitte for helping me wind the yarn. I'll post a picture when I get a little further. I'm looking forward to Thursday Knit Night tomorrow! I have a meeting at work tomorrow from 3:30 - 5:00 and it better not go any longer than 5:00. Don't they know I have a standing date every Thursday night? : )

Went to St. Peter's church near my office this morning for ashes. My coat got caught on the door handle going into the hall where they were giving the ashes and then when I got up from the kneeler, I pushed it right into the poor priest. I couldn't believe how clumsy I was!

Not much else to report today. Just the fact that tomorrow is Thursday!

As Promised; Pictures

Hello!
As promised, here are some pictures of my projects, etc.

This is the cable stitch hat I made. It is the February project at Woolly Lamb Yarn Studio. It is the "Snappy Hat." Thanks to Tom (knit shop) for the pattern.
This is the beautiful Chinook Scarf pattern Tom (knit shop) brought in. I am having a great time knitting it.

Good Morning Chicago! Happy President's Day!

Well, since we don't get the day off today for President's Day - the best part of President's Day was that I didn't have to sit next to anyone on the train! YEAH!! The trains were empty and not at all crowded. It was like going to work on a Saturday.

Tomorrow is Paczki Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P%C4%85czki. A Paczek is a very decadent pastry (like a donut) filled with fresh strawberries, custard, whipped cream, etc. - VERY fattening. Polish people celebrate the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday by, what else, EATING! This is the last day before fasting begins and getting ready for Easter. This is the last day to eat all the meat you want and decadent food! We begin fasting on Wednesday and then no meat on Fridays. My DH and I will stop at our favorite bakery and pick up some Paczki so he can take them to his fellow workers. (The store opens early and there are lines out the door because everyone loves them.) His fellow workers all look forward to these delicacies and enjoy them. He, of course, gets a whipped cream and strawberry one for me as well as for the rest of us at home! Mandy, I'll eat one for you! : )

Alas, I was very busy this weekend and didn't get a chance to post any pictures. I did finish my February Project from Woolly Lamb and love it. It's a beautiful cable hat. I also started a new scarf pattern that our dear Tom brought in for us. (Darn you Tom!) It's a very lovely soft green multi-colored drapy scarf that is actually fun to knit. I'll post a pic of that one too. Of course, I got my new red Namaste bags on Thursday. They are so beautiful. I'll post pictures of them tonight too. I'll be taking pics all night.

Gregory signed the lease for an apartment for the last semester of this year. Luckily it's right across the street from his current apartment so it will be easy to move. That worry is over for me. Now we wait until David takes the Bar Exam next week! Does the worrying ever end?

Well, since I forgot to charge my phone last night and left it at home charging, I can't play words with friends. I'll check my email now and Facebook and then get to work!

Enjoy the day and be sure you smile! : )

THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!!!

I forgot to tell you that I completed the dreaded FAFSA for Gregory. I'm so glad when that is complete. Now I can relax about that. (This is a government process that we have to complete on line for any financial aid we can get for his college tuiton.) We generally do not get any but the college requires we do it. I've been doing it for about 10 years now with David's college, law school, and now Gregory. It's very easy because all your information is stored from year to year. You just need to give them your current income and any investments (ha!) that you have.

So glad also that it's Friday! The week did seem to fly by very quickly. Now we have the weekend to look forward to. Grocery shopping tonight, cleaning house tomorrow, and then dinner out on Saturday night! Yeah. That's the only night we go out for dinner now on our new austerity program. (Except I can't seem to understand the meaning of that word....been shopping a bit too much lately and it's time to stop!) I tried to put myself on a yarn diet but that didn't work. Last night at Woolly Lamb, Brigitte had some new beautiful white yarn and I couldn't resist buying it to make a baby blanket. Do you think I have enough projects? Oh well, it's a terrible case of startistis. I will post some pictures this weekend. I'm not sure how to post them at work (which is when I write in my blog during the week) so I'll do it this weekend. I dont' start work until 9:00 a.m. but I get here at 8:00 a.m. so I have time to catch up on Words With Friends, email and this blog. Unfortunately my office is like a bomb shelter and I have a hard time getting a signal on my Iphone!

Well, enjoy the weekend and Mandy, make sure you eat some delicious pancakes for me and don't work too hard!

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Good morning!
Sitting here at work with a mug of coffee and two delicious chocolate chip cookies left over from our February Birthday celebration. My boss made them and they are delicious! There's a few other things left over but not worth eating! : )

Tonight is Thursday Knit Night at Woolly Lamb! I can't wait to see everyone, especially Gladys. She just retired; Tuesday was her last day of work. She'll have lots of time to play Word With Friends now! I was justing thinking this morning that I won't be able to retire for another 10 years! Yikes! Will I live to be 65? I sure hope so! I will never say I'm bored once I do retire because I have so many hobbies! Ten years seems like an awfully long time....

Tonight at Woolly Lamb I will be working on a red scarf kit I bought on line. A percentage of the proceeds goes to the American Heart Association. The pattern is supposed to be hearts and it sort of does look like hearts. It is a Red Heart Yarn product. (Something Brigitte does NOT sell!) I didn't think the yarn would be too bad but I was mistaken! I started knitting on Sunday and the yarn was course, scratchy, and awful to work with. It was an acrylic yarn and felt like twine you use to wrap packages with! I stopped knitting with it and switched to a beautiful merino wool yarn - what a difference. Of course, it's red! Pictures to follow tonight. I hope to get more of it done tonight so you can see the pattern. I plan to give the crappy yarn to one of my fellow knitterladies. She gives yarn to prisoners so they can learn to knit.

Today is Thursday so that means tomorrow is Friday! YEAH!!! I love the weekends and this weekend shouldn't be too busy so that's even better! I also feel 100% better than last week Thursday so the weekend will be that much better! Enjoy the day; we're supposed to have beautiful weather today (for February); 48 degrees for a high with sunshine! Who could ask for anything more!

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Good morning!
We had a very nice Valentine's Day; we celebrated by having Dinty Moore Beef Stew over rice. Very romantic! (And it was leftovers that Gregory didn't want because he got tired of them at school!) We're really trying hard to eat at home and save money. My time as being unemployed really hit home and made us realize that if we spend $250 - $300 every two weeks on groceries, we'd better stay home and eat them!  I sat and enjoyed my Tuesday evening shows and we watched the recording of The Bachelor from Monday night when we were watching something else. I can't believe he's keeping that B___H Courtney! He deserves whatever he gets with that one now as far as I'm concerned.

Today at work we celebrate the February birthdays. Everyone brings some snack or something to share. I thought I'd see what the masses do before I bring anything myself. My boss will probably bring her famous chocolate chip cookies. They are FABULOUS! She brought some in last month and I ate 3 of them!!!

I am feeling 100% back to normal today. My Pink-eye is gone and I actually have some energy! I can't wait to go to knitting tomorrow night! I haven't seen my knitting ladies for a long time! Last week Thursday I was too sick to go there and Sunday we went to Milwaukee. I'm back and ready to knit!

Enjoy the day and remember, today is the first day of the rest of your life!

Good Morning and Happy Valentine's Day! - February 14, 2012

Today is the 31st anniversary of our engagement. Yes, we got engaged on Valentine's Day, 1981! Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Engagement Anniversary to my DH! He stills remembers every year and gives me a Valentine's Day card with Happy Anniverary of our Engagement written in it ! What a guy!

I am very excited because I just orderd my favorite St. Patrick's Day basket and accessories from Longaberger. It's the shamrock design! I LOVE shamrocks! I ordered the basket, hang tag, two octagon placements, a purse (I just don't have enough!) and a square tablecloth. I can't wait to get them! I just needed something to make me happy - sorry Tom : ( Here is a link where I hope you can see the items. https://www.longabergerfactorystore.com/p-10845-shamrock-placemat.aspx

Not a lot of time today, too busy ordering my Shamrock stuff! Have a wonderful Valentine's Day - even if it is a made-up holiday! We all need a little break during this long winter!

Monday, February 13, 2012 - Back to The Living

Sorry about my long absence! I "took sick" early last week and am finally feeling almost 100%. I had a bad cold and actually had to call in sick after working for a month and a half! I felt bad but needed the relaxation and had to go to the doctor. As it turned out, I had the dreaded - PINK EYE! I hate getting that because it's so contagious. Luckily I only had it in one eye and it really doesn't hurt. After 24 hours of eye drops, I wasn't contagious and am feeling much better. Back to work for me today! Yeah!!!!

I didn't feel like knitting at all last week. I didn't even make it to the Thursday Knit Night at Woolly Lamb! I also wasn't able to go to knitting on Sunday. In spite of being sick, I had a very busy weekend. Saturday we took our Sable to the vet and spent $350.00 on her; blood test, meds, visit. Then I went to have my hair cut and colored. After that, I had to go to the dentist and found I had two cracked teeth - due to grinding and clenching my teeth! Do I have a lot of stress????? Oh well, it's only money. Then on Sunday we went up to Milwaukee to visit my youngest son. We went to lunch, cleaned his apartment a bit, changed his sheets, and then went grocery shopping. We finally got home about 4:00 and were both thoroughly exhausted!! It was all we could do to stay up for the Grammy Awards show!

Such a shame about Whitney Houston. She was so beautiful and talented. Now they say she may have drowned in the tub after taking something to relax her. I don't think it was drugs that killed her, it was just an accident. She died much too early!

Well, back to work again. I hope to have some pictures of the progress of some of my knitting projects soon but don't hold your breath!

Happy Valentine's Day (tomorrow) and make sure you do your best today and always!

Good Morning Chicago! - February 8, 2012

Not too much going on with me. I have a bit of a head cold and don't feel great. I didn't even knit last night! That means I'm really sick! Also, of course, the dreaded MONTHLY REPORT has been ongoing since last week Friday....does it ever end and has kept me very busy at work? Well, maybe today it will end! : )

Has anyone been watching the Bachelor on TV? I didn't want to get too invested in it but my DH (Dear Husband) has been watching it and I got caught up in it! It seems like it's all scripted. It must be a real ego boost for these guys to have 25 women trying to get their attention! What kind of girl can fall in love with someone so quickly? It's beyond me.

Hopefully I will make it to Woolly Lamb tomorrow night for our open knit. Last week I met and talked with a very nice lady who served in the Army in Afghanistan. She is an auditor (good God they're all around me - at knitting and at work!) and was very interesting. Her life has been very full! It's nice to meet new people at knitting and good for Brigitte to get some new blood!

Well, off to figure out how to put my blog on my IPhone....

Monday, February 6, 2012 - The Ric Rac Scarves are Done!

Happy Birthday to my brother-in-law Steve Wilson! He turned 63 today! What an old man, but a great guy! Hope you enjoy your year!

I had a great weekend and finished the two Ric Rac scarves. They were very quick to make; about one hour for each! Sorry but my picture isn't that great but you get the idea:

Saturday, February 4, 2012

Good morning!
It's been very busy at work this week so I haven't had a chance to blog. I had the dreaded "monthly report" to get ready for on Thursday and then start sorting on Friday, Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. It's a very labor intensive project that happens once a month - what does that remind you of? : ) I was introduced to this report on the second day on the job....not a great thing! Oh well, I "own" it now and will do the best job I can do! It's not as bad as it was last month because it's just January - last month was the year-end! I do have a very knowledgeable teacher who is very patient!

Busy day today; had my mammogram, went to the post office, the library, Starbucks for a cup of coffee and then the foot doctor! And it's jut 11:30 a.m.! What a morning! Glad that's all done! Next weekend I get my hair cut and colored and then go to the dentist! Now I need to make a doctor appointment to see how my blood sugar and cholesterol are doing. I hate busy weekends! Sundays, of course, are reserved for knitting and chatting at Woolly Lamb Yarn Studio!

Our February Woolly Lamb project is the "Snappy Hat" using Sulka yarn. This is a hat with beautiful cables. Mine will be a darker blue color. Although it's hard to tell on this picture what color it is!

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

The Skull Hat Complete!

Hi!
As promised, this is Gregory's Skull Hat. The pink looking skulls are actually red!

Hump Day - Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Good morning!
I almost typed January! Can you believe how fast this first month of the year has gone by?

Well, I did finish the skulls pattern of my skull hat. I finished it this morning along with the 2 extra rows needed. Tonight I will finish the hat and post a picture. I wanted to wait until it was completed before taking the picture because it just didn't look good with just the the skull pattern. I think Gregory will love it! I plan to send it to him on Saturday so he can wear it IF we get any cold weather! (For my part, it can stay like this until April!) Of course, I'll have to take it to Woolly Lamb on Thursday knit night for show-and-tell! Maybe I'll buy some more yarn and make another hat!

Not too much else to write about. I didn't even check my Words With Friends last night because I was so busy finishing the hat!

Until tonight when I post the picture! Hope you all have a wonderful day and enjoy this respite from winter!
