Working Out

Last night my DH and ds went to the Community Center for the first time. I sort of felt stupid because I was one of the oldest women there. I also don't have any "nice" workout clothes. I did walk around the track 6 times....is that a mile? It was much easier that walking in the neighborhood but not as much fun...pretty boring...I need an Ipod! My ds and I also rode the "Lifestyle" bikes for 10 minutes....I didn't want to push myself! I think I could really get into that exercise stuff except for the fact that I'm not sure how to use everything!

I finished my 5th pair of socks last night...knitchner on toes completed...I love doing that but have to have absolute quiet and no one bothering me! I also started knitting another pair using a soy yarn with crab shells in it? It's actually very soft. They are destined to be shorter socks, not the usual high ankle socks. I will post pics of both pairs tonight...promise!

I DID IT!

Well, I lost 7 pounds this past week! I'm so happy about that but I have to remember that I always lose weight quickly when I start to diet because I ate so much junk that my body naturally would lose weight! I'm still happy! If I could lose 3 pounds this week (I know that's going to be hard) I can say I lost 10 pounds! I don't know who I'll tell this to because I haven't said anything to anyone that I'm on Weight Watchers! I'm afraid to tell anyone in case I fail! My reward for losing 25 pounds will be an Ipod for myself. I do feel a bit thinner and I feel very much in control of my eating....it's a new feeling!
Knitting is coming along very well. I'm almost finished with my 4th pair of socks! They are so pretty and so soft...picture to be shown at a later date. I finished several projects including the market bag for my son's girlfriend's birthday. I'm almost finished with mine too! I also finished a beautiful Maggie shawl. I started a new baby blanket with some yarn earmarked for another project....didn't like the way it was coming so I stopped making it....now it will become a baby blanket!
I have been scrapping a bit but not as much as I would like. There just aren't enough hours in the day....
Don't even get me started on my quilting....

This Is Going To Be HARD

Tonight was a real test. I went to Woolly Lamb for knit night; wine, dips, cookies, etc. were available for everyone to share. TOUGH! I managed to only take a little watermelon, a few grapes, and 3 long thin bread sticks. I'm pretty proud of that but I'm feeling sorry for myself that I couldn't have more....NO POINTS LEFT!

Brigitte asked me where my item from the fashion show was. I wore the cream colored top, which I really like, but I just didn't want to put it in the contest. It's nice but couldn't possibly compete with some of the beautiful items everyone else made. Mary Jane's beautiful Maggie Sweater, Ursula's lovely lace sweater she made for her Mother, Ro primary colored baby blanket....these items are all so pretty and colorful. Mine is nice too but too plain...

Oh well, maybe next year I can enter something real pretty!

My motto is one day at a time and tomorrow is another day!

Two Days Down - The Rest of My Life to Go

(Written on Thursday, June 4 for Wednesday, June 3!) I actually managed to walk for 1/2 an hour today. Yesterday I walked for 15 minutes and thought I would die! I barely made it home. Today was better. I really enjoy walking through the neighborhood and seeing all the beautiful new homes they are building. I imagine myself living in those houses, having a beautiful room set up with all my knitting, scrapping, quilting and miscellaneous arts and craft supplies all set up. I won't have to worry about the basement flooding and taking away several thousands (yes, I said thousands!) of dollars of my supplies. What a dream!

I was a bit upset last night because my DH, who of course has more WW points than I do) was bragging about how he had 5 more points let. Too bad it wasn't 6 because he wanted to eat a piece of the apple pie (that's his only source of fruit!.) I barely had enough left to eat dinner, let alone a dessert. I used some of my 35 extra weekly points and had some fresh watermelon. It was delicious!!!

I love being in control of my eating habits now. I always felt like I was a train wreck waiting to happen; heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer - all the things that led to my dear Mother's death. It feels good to know that I'm eating all the right things and taking control of my life!

Weight Watchers - Day 2 - June 2, 2009

Today was a great day! I didn't feel too hungry and just finished off my last point! I think I will take this one day at a time....that's the best way for me.

I'm looking forward to Thursday and what happens at Woolly Lamb Knit Night. I plan to bring my market bag to try and finish up. It's a crochet pattern and I'm learning how to crochet. I hope I can control myself with the food though. I will definitely have a glass of wine and hopefully someone will bring veggies....no dip though!

I finished the latest Kate Jacobs book "Knit Two" today. It was very good and I really enjoyed it.

Weight Watchers

I'm going to tell everyone that I now weigh 247 .4 lbs. I am 52 years old and am 5 feet 6.5 inches tall. My goal weight is 150 pounds. Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life. I start Weight Watchers.

After I saw a picture of my self taken yesterday at the Woolly Lamb Yarn Studio Third Annual Fashion Show, I realized that I truly need to lose weight. If not for my health then for my self esteem. I made this beautiful top as well as the shawl but all I see is my fat self in it. I hate the way I look and the best way to change this feeling is to lose weight. I'm lucky because my DH is also going to WW with me. We're planning to rejoin the Community Center and actually use it!

I'll update this blog as often as possible, but definitely weekly to chronicle my weight loss. Hopefully this will encourage me to keep up the good work. I also joined the Ravelry.com Weight Watchers Group for support and encouragement.
Wish me luck!

More Snow!!!

We awoke this morning to another blast of snow and cold. I keep asking myself why we live in the Chicagoland area? Forecasts call for single digit temperatures next week; looks like we'll be keeping the cabinet doors open to prevent the pipes from freezing!

My oldest son was just accepted to John Marshall Law School! YEAH!!! He quit his full-time job so now he'll be a starving student again! Oh well, at least he's going to fulfill his dream of becoming a lawyer!

I spent last night and the night before at Woolly Lamb Yarn. Wednesday night was a crochet class and last night was knit night. We have so much fun! I have a few pictures from our News Year's Day party that I downloaded to work on a couple scrapbook pages. These are some of my fellow knitters and myself. Can you guess who I am?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I was very happy to say good-bye to 2008. It was not a good year for me and I'm hoping 2009 brings much more happiness to my life! It was very difficult to get into the Holiday Spirit this year for many reasons. My company Christmas Luncheon was canceled but 1/2 of the money that would have been used for the luncheon was distributed to many employees who needed money just for food. That was a very good thing and I was just as happy, if not happier, to see the funds used for that purpose. My office did not have a formal luncheon; it was a pot luck luncheon, which was nice, but just another reason to be depressed. Several people at work were laid off in early December and I was praying my son didn't get laid off too! Luckily one of my good friends was laid off but did get another job within the company and starts on January 12. We didn't receive Christmas gifts; money was donated to a charity instead. My husband and I decided to not exchange gifts this year and due to heavy financial burdens, we cut back on the kids gifts. We decided that health insurance and a college education were gifts enough for them! Then with the economy, gasoline, etc., etc., anyway, I was happy to see 2008 fade into the night (or morning)!

I had minor surgery on December 2 and was off of work for 2 weeks. I healed very nicely but got a sinus infection shortly after the surgery so didn't get to enjoy my time off of work. Once back to work, I got my sinus infection back again and had to go back to the doctor. I did take a week of vacation during the New Year week and really enjoyed myself!

My knitting shop owner is in love with me because I've been knitting up a storm! She had all Noro yarn 25% off as well as Debbie Bliss so I was in heaven buying a lot of yarn. (What recession? - buying yarn doesn't count!) Unfortunately Brigitte (from Woolly Lamb in Chicago) won't be selling Noro or Debbie Bliss anymore but will begin carrying Rowan yarn! I'm so excited about that! I've heard Rowan is a great yarn. We had a fabulous Christmas party and then another party on New Years Day at Woolly Lamb. (We'll use any excuse to have a party and sit and knit!) Everyone is so friendly; just like a big family.
